A Bouncer At A Private Nightclub Learns Why Alcohol Poisoning Signs And Symptoms Can Save A Drinker's Life

Just a week ago, Ryan applied for a job as a bouncer at one of the local discotheques. He had studied aikido, judo, karate, ninjitsu, and gatka for twelve years; he was a personal trainer; he took daily supplements, minerals, and vitamins; he was into health foods and healthy eating; and he seemed well matched for such a job. When Ryan got notice that he had been hand picked for the job, he was very happy. Due to the fact that this was a special nightspot, nevertheless, he had to go through a two week instructional class.

On the first day of class, the trainer started talking about drinkers who drink in an excessive manner and what the barmaids, bouncers, and bartenders should do when this situation arises. When the lecturer started discussing alcohol poisoning, Ryan was delighted to learn that all of the new bouncers, barmaids, and bartenders had to learn about an alcohol overdose and precisely what they should do when they witnessed an individual who was exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms or manifesting the signs of alcohol poisoning.

More explicitly, all the new bartenders, barmaids, and bouncers were instructed that nausea and vomiting were almost without exception one of the first signs of alcohol poisoning and that unconsciousness was in all probability the most highly noticeable alcohol poisoning sign or symptom. The instructor went out of his way to highlight the fact that alcohol overdose symptoms were signals from the brain and from the body that the person had consumed more alcohol than his or her body can process.

There were, however, more than a few other signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning that all the new bouncers, barmaids, and bartenders were taught to be conversant with. For example, the class members learned that individuals with alcohol poisoning exhibit confusion, often have seizures, are difficult to awaken, and they exhibit poor reflex responses.

What is more, the members in the class learned that many drinkers who have alcohol poisoning also display slow, shallow or irregular breathing; little response from painful stimuli, for instance from pinching; slurred speech; and blue tinged or pale skin.

To exemplify the impact that binge drinking has on alcohol poisoning, the lecturer told the members of the class that a person who gets smashed just once or twice annually is, by definition, engaging in abusive drinking. Such a person, however, is in all probability not alcohol addicted, but is in all likelihood engaging in binge drinking. As stated by the trainer, engaging in binge drinking even one time, regrettably, can result in an alcohol overdose that in extreme instances can be lethal.

The teacher then informed the students in the class that the most fitting response for an alcohol overdose is the following: if it is assumed that an individual is suffering from an alcohol overdose, call 911 and ask for immediate medical assistance, even if the drinker is underage. By taking this plan of action, the drinker will get the prompt alcohol poisoning medical attention she or he requires.

After learning about alcohol poisoning and especially about the symptoms and signs of alcohol poisoning, it may be pointed out, Ryan realized that he had learned some vital information that might save a person's life in the foreseeable future. Undoubtedly, Ryan learned that knowledge of the normal alcohol poisoning signs and symptoms and knowing how to quickly and appropriately react to such symptoms and signs (by immediately calling 911 and asking for emergency medical assistance) can help a drinker avoid a deadly case of alcohol poisoning.
