When Lois was in high school, she had gained a reputation as a person who studied a lot and who rarely, if ever, let her hair down by drinking with her friends. She seemed passionate about excelling academically so that she would be able to pursue a career that she not only got pleasure from but one that also gave her some financial security.

After Lois graduated from high school, she applied to and was accepted into a highly rated program in economics. Her analysis of her options regarding this decision was based on the fact that this subject matter would be a good springboard for law school and would not be similar to the preponderance of law school applicants who major in political science at the undergraduate level.

Lois was the kind of person who worked in a rigorous manner to finish what she started and then would take some time off when she could. It just so happens, however, that virtually all of the things she did between terms or during summer breaks were unrelated to drinking. Needless to say, Lois was anything but a party-girl. Now that her final exams for her second year in law school were over and feeling overjoyed that she had done very well on her exams, because of this, she wanted to take a break and do some celebrating.

So Lois and a number of her friends went to a local pub where they started to have a few drinks. As the evening progressed, Lois and her pals continued to drink. If truth be told, she was having so much fun that she didn't want the night to come to an end.

After drinking about fifty minutes when Lois began to slur her speech, talk in a confused manner, and then fall unconscious, however, her friends instantly realized that they needed to call that they needed to call 911 and ask for emergency assistance because they suspected that Lois was displaying alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was very aware that she had dodged a bullet and almost died due to an alcohol overdose and, as a result, was gratified to be alive. At the same time, nonetheless, she was somewhat depressed knowing that she had almost passed away the previous night. Her Mother and Father knew how hard she studied at school and how little she let herself socialize with her pals. Nevertheless, they also realized that Lois needed to avoid abusive and irresponsible drinking.

As a result, they suggested that in the future, whenever a drinking situation arises, that she always drink responsibly and in moderation. Lois agreed and promised her Mother and Father and her friends that she would never again drink in an irresponsible and excessive manner. In her own words, "I never thought that I would become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local newspaper. I now realize that careless and excessive drinking is not for me. I give my word of honor that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also displayed a lot of. In other words, she quickly realized that she had made a mistake and decided that she would not make the same error again. Indeed, she now realized that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this kind of irresponsible drinking can end in death.
