The Wedding Day Is Many Couples' Main Focus, But The Wedding Rehearsal Supper Can Be Special, Too

There are numerous preparations, costs and anxieties that go together with preparing for a wedding ceremony. If couples aren't mindful they can get so involved with planning the wedding and endeavoring to get all the details right that there's little time to enjoy the experience. When my niece was preparing for her wedding ceremony she had three bridal showers to go to, reception plans to get in order and was trying to nail down a venue for the rehearsal dinner. The third bridal shower was given at my house. You see I'm her godmother so I had wanted to do something unique for her. A few days before the shower we talked on the phone. She sounded very anxious. She and her fiance were also having difficulties finding the best wedding songs for the ceremony. I suggested that she come the night before the bridal shower and stay all night and we would relax and I would help her make a list of what still had to be done prior to the wedding. She thought this sounded like a wonderful plan.

I did the majority of the planning for the shower prior to my niece arriving so that we could give attention to her needs. She said that the rehearsal dinner was her main stress due to the fact that the spot they had reserved had double booked, so they needed to find a different location. We started by working on finding the best wedding songs for the wedding so we could get one need out of the way thereby giving confidence that the other would be handled as well. As I predicted finding the best wedding songs was just a matter of searching the net, listening to samples, ordering what was selected and that was that. Now on to the rehearsal dinner.

The wedding day rehearsal dinner is normally handled by the groom's family; in fact some people refer to the occasion as the groom's supper. My niece's fiance is from another state so his family is willing to pay for the rehearsal dinner, but they are not able to help with making the preparations. My niece had touched base with the restaurant where the wedding reception will be held, but the only available space was the section where the wedding reception would be happening. My niece stated that the plan was to decorate the wedding reception area previous to going to the church for the rehearsal.

We called two neighboring restaurants to see if they could handle the rehearsal dinner. Both had other gatherings scheduled. Her fiance's mom and dad are divorced, also both have remarried. This meant that there were additional people that would be at the rehearsal dinner. This was also adding to her stress for the reason that she was trying to figure out the etiquette for seating. She had the seating chart approved for the wedding, but not knowing the place the rehearsal dinner would be happening diminished her opportunity to plan a chart.

I asked my niece if she had contacted the church to see if the fellowship area would be accessible. Everybody could just mingle and have a light catered meal. This would be quite a bit less formal and would be easy to plan. The fellowship area was open that date. We called two delis and ordered food. My niece called her fiance and told him the revised plans for the rehearsal dinner. He thought this sounded fantastic. He would make arrangements to have a buddy of his tend bar and would arrange for the drinks.

The rehearsal dinner was a pleasant relaxed evening. The guests were able to mingle and socialize and the bride and groom did not feel the need to sit in one spot while everyone ordered their food and had it served. With having a buffet line the environment was very casual and the out of town guests did not have to attempt to find another place in an area that they were not familiar with.
